Review #813 - Accord Stone Irish Whiskey Batch No. 1
Accord Stone is a new brand of blended Irish whiskey; the brand takes its name from the 'Accord Stones' placed by Celts around Ireland centuries ago. These stones were meeting places where agreements were made; according to the brand's website, these were places where "people of all walks of life, men and women, peasants and kings would reach through the stone to shake hands and seal an agreement."
In the context of the whisky, this 'meeting' of two refers to the combination of a single malt and a grain whisky, and also two different cask types. In this first batch, which is sub-titled 'Purpose & Provenance,' a 7 year old single malt is combined with a 12 year single grain; the malt is aged in ex-bourbon casks, while the grain whisky was matured in Oloroso sherry casks.
After blending, this whisky is bottled at a strength of 50% ABV; it's also not chill filtered, and there's no color added, so we're hoping for a high-quality drinking experience.
Accord Stone Irish Whiskey Batch No. 1
Ireland - Blend
Price: USD 70 (2026)
Age Statement: 7 Years
Strength: 50% ABV
Cask Makeup: Ex-bourbon and Oloroso sherry casks
Details: Not chill filtered, no color added; batch 1
Tasting Methodology: Reviewed 2 times (once blind) over 4 months from a sample. Tasted in a nosing glass each time, rested 15+ minutes
Nose: Prunes and some musty grape show the sherry, honey and creamy vanilla show ex-bourbon influence. Nice sweetness, and we get some light fruit and a bit of starchy grain; cinnamon raisin bread and caramel come next, and there are accents of chocolate and cola.
Palate: Syrupy sweet grape, quite rich, with plums and prunes - a lot of dark fruit. Chocolate fudge, cardamom, and brown sugar are met by toasted bread and vanilla; it's dense, almost sherry-like. The mouthfeel is medium-thick.
Finish: Sweet cinnamon and fudge, oats, lots of syrupy red fruits. Quite dessert-like, but we also get some oak spice or tannins, along with rye bread and plum. It's a medium length finish.
Final Note: This is a really solid Irish blend - great weight, good flavor density, and quite a strong cask influence. The sherry from the grain whisky component adds lots of dark red and purple fruit, making it almost syrupy sweet at times; behind that, there's a nice baking spice profile. It doesn't taste too old, but there is also a nice oaky flavor in the finish which lingers for a while.
Value is pretty good here, too. This is one of our favorite reasonably-priced Irish whiskies that we've tried recently, and it offers bolder flavors that a lot of other whiskies in the same category and price range.
Our Rating: 7.3 / 10
In the current whisky landscape of increasing prices and variable quality, we've added a value rating to our reviews that relates to the score and the available pricing of each whisky. This roughly equates to a 0-10 scale; no reviews so far have exceeded a score of 10, although it is technically possible for the formula to produce a value rating higher than 10 with a high enough score and low enough price.
Value Rating: 7.04
